When someone spends their working week asking all the big questions like why, how and when but from a business perspective it eventually makes you look internally and ask yourself those questions too. When a noticeable ‘mentoring’ trend started to take place it dawned upon Angie Hammond that there was more to this than just helping people to grow their business, she had been helping people to grow personally too. Having spent 13 years cultivating a marketing company you can imagine how many “big” conversations she has had which is why now mentoring is her absolute most favourite thing to do.
However, instead of just talking about numbers, sales, operations and customers her tact is deeper. It is a fact that starting a business comes from either a desire to go out on your own or the need to just not be employed, maybe you inherited the business, maybe you fell into the role, but you got to where you are because of a specific set of experiences. The question is – are you happy where you’ve landed and if not, what would you do to change it? This is the crux of what “unpacking” means to Angie.
If you are in the headspace for change, you must start at the beginning, which means you start with “you”. Change comes from your own volition and determination to make things different (the better kind of different). Unpacking yourself is therefore crucial to the success of your metamorphosis.
In her debut book which was only just released in May of this year, Hammond literally unpacks herself so others can go through the process of doing the same with the ultimate goals of living a life without the baggage
As humans, we hold onto our memories, good and bad and we replay parts of them. When we come up against similar situations we pull out memory and play snap, then we react in a similar way to our past memory. However, it’s not always the best way to deal with a new situation no matter how similar they are. Using a set of fresh eyes, and having let go of our past will help us avoid growing hedges of resentment plant that create our very own maze in our heads, destroying any chance of growth.
Unpacking is cathartic and necessary says Angie who feels much lighter for having unburdened herself from her life’s errors and misinterpretations.
Unpacking tells you the stories from Angie’s life, she then works out what the lesson was in that experience and asks you questions at the end of each story so you can draw your own comparisons and conclusions about the lesson. Unpacking will take you on a journey through countries, decades, life moments and mistakes. It discusses being a loner, having confidence issues, bullying, noticing behaviour patterns, travelling, love, fear, relationships, parenthood, running a business whilst being a parent, depression, happiness, losing your identity, clawing back your identity, marriage, infidelity, guilt, forgiveness and spirituality and so much more.
Also on the table is an invitation to have a mentoring session with Angie to start your Unpacking non-returnable one-way trip. You may want to unpack yourself and your business or be content with just working out why you are the way you are.
Angie does not profess to be a psychologist or a medical professional, she is not your mum or your best mate, but she will listen and help you to fathom out what your patterns are and how you might avoid falling down the same trap every time.
