The location of your passion – it could be hiding anywhere, it’ll creep up on you and one day you’ll just realise that the thing that you are doing is just fantastic, that you are enjoying yourself and time flies when you’re immersed into whatever it is. That is how I feel about my garden these days
I’ve always loved nature, my mother will attest to me always telling her that “I want to be a tree”. To me, there is nothing better than being amongst the trees in a forest without a single other soul around. You can feel the stillness yet breathe in the life, the air holds a smooth robust and scented serenity that is fleetingly punctuated by the chirp of a bird or the rustle of a bush. As the tall gums rise into the sky they tell stories of their life in that space for many years, they hold marks of insects trails and I sometimes hope that they remember that times that a human may have hugged them along the way, as I do.
Finding your happy place is a truly sacred thing. For me, a forest is a place where I relax, even in my meditations I always go to a forest with a natural pool of water and a small waterfall. It as no wonder that I would end up happiest playing in an outside world. With the love of the trails and the wind in my hair, I know I need to follow this passion.
I know that I know “marketing” inside out, I know that I am good at understanding small business but I also know that Im bored of this world from a ground-level perspective, I want to do something different, something that taps into my advisory skills (from a marketing level) but also something that encapsulates my love for nature, I am searching for something that envelopes all of the things that make me tick. So education is my pathway for a short period of my life for now as the world pauses for a breath to heal from this global pandemic.
You know Im grateful for the curveball I have been thrown. Slowly marketing clients are starting to come back and ask us to help them and that is awesome, but I’m also grateful that I have had the opportunity to re-evaluate my future and see what else I could possibly be doing with my time on this planet – seen as I went to the other side of it to thrive, I had better get on with living up to my own hefty expectations.
What are your passions and can you intertwine your passion with your work? For me Im looking for a board position with a national park, a garden centre, an animal sanctuary, a manufacturer that makes products for hikers – just somewhere that I can be useful and enjoy giving them a leg up.
